Editing Services

I offer editorial services for Romance, YA, and NA authors.

In addition to being a multi-published author, I've worked as a freelance editor since 2005, specializing in Romance and Young Adult books.  I started my training in 2010, as an editorial intern for Entangled Publishing's YA line of books, where I evaluated queries and submissions. As an acquiring content editor at Samhain, I took numerous books from submission to finished product. I've also worked as a content and line editor for indie authors ranging from first-time writers to USA Today and nationally Best-Sellers.

My PhD in English and more than 10 years of experience teaching writing gives me the ability to effectively help writers improve at any level. I know how to analyze a text and get to the heart of the issues in it, but I also know how to help writers learn from their mistakes and build their knowledge of craft.

Whether you're ready to query or want to self publish, I can help.

Services Offered:

Query Letter Help- $35 (up to 3 reads)

I have a strange fondness for query letters and a high request rate on my own queries and those I've critiqued. I would love to help you make yours shine!

First 10 Pages or Synopsis Help- $35

I will line-edit and give detailed comments on the first 10 pages of your writing or a short synopsis to prepare for agents or editors

Submission Package- $60

In addition to polishing your query letter (up to 3 rounds), I will critique your first 10 pages OR a short synopsis (10 pages or less) and give you detailed notes.

The First 50- $120

When an agent requests a partial, make sure your open is tight, clean, and compelling. The first 50 provides line edits and a detailed edit letter to help you polish those important first pages of your manuscript

The Big Picture- $250-$350

If you're looking for an in-depth beta read from someone trained in story structure, this is for you! The Big Picture will focus on plot and pacing, character development (with detailed notes on the main characters), world building, and voice. You'll receive a detailed edit letter, including multiple suggestions for how to fix any problem areas to get you started. **does not include line edits or in-depth notes in manuscript

<75k words: $250; 75k-100k words $350; +100k contact for estimate

In-Depth Edit- by Request- 1¢-3¢ per word

If you want a professional content and line-edit for polishing your work or self-publishing, I provide a no-obligation estimate based on an evaluation of your first 10 pages. Prices range from 1¢-3¢ per word and include The Big Picture edit plus in-text comments and a second read through with line editing. Does not include proofreading.

Terms:

Payment of deposit for services under $100 indicates an acceptance of these terms. For services over $100, clients will receive a contract to review before any formal agreement is made. The contract will outline payment terms, extent of services being provided, and dates for completion. Contracts are, of course, negotiable and no contract is binding until it is signed AND a deposit is received.

All services require a 50% deposit before work can be done. All payments are done via online invoicing that accepts credit card payments. The final payment is due upon receipt of final edits. All payment dates and amounts will be outlined clearly in the contract.

Availability of services is limited and based on my schedule. To guarantee a certain time or date, a deposit must be made to hold your reservation.

All editorial services are done electronically using MS Word. Please format all manuscripts in MS Word before sending.

If I have received partial payment to reserve editorial services but have not yet started work, I am happy to provide a refund of your deposit at your request. However, once work has started, no refunds will be issued.

I cannot guarantee that using my editorial services will guarantee an offer of representation from an agent or a contract with a publisher. Unfortunately, even excellent manuscripts often do not find homes in the publishing industry.

Feedback given during contracted editorial services cannot be reproduced or used as marketing material or as a blurb without written consent.

No personal information shared in the context of our business agreement will ever be shared or sold.

Clients who purchase the 10-page or First 50 critiques can apply the cost of their service toward a Big Picture or In-Depth edit. However, I reserve the right to respectfully decline service to full manuscript critiques and in-depth edits that I do not believe are a good fit for my particular knowledge and skills. Basically, I won't take on a client for in-depth editorial service if I don't feel that I'm the best person to help them.
